About

What Is Community Singing?

Community singing is a welcoming space where all voices—brand new to singing, experienced and everyone in-between—gather to sing together with no audition, no music reading, no pressure, no performance.

Whether you sing in the shower, in your car, in your head, or simply hum and make sounds, you belong here.

We sing uplifting songs rooted in the oral tradition — the ancient, simple way of learning together.

We learn by listening as a group, through call-and-response in real time. We discover songs through each other's voices. No training needed. Just a willingness to join your voice with others.

Singing Together, Growing Together

When we gather in circle, something magical happens. Voices that were once hesitant find their strength. Hearts that felt isolated discover connection. Bodies that carried tension begin to release.

This is the power of community singing — not performance, not perfection, but presence. Together, we create a space where every voice matters, where harmony emerges naturally, and where we remember what it means to belong.

"In singing together, we reclaim something essential: a shared humanity. When we lift our voices in harmony, we dissolve the boundaries between us. Our joys, longings, sorrows, and hopes mingle in the air and are held by the community."

As Bobby McFerrin says: "Singing in community is especially powerful. You get people together in a room singing, and you instantly knock down all the walls—the creeds, the gender, age, and race differences, everything. You're all one at that point, lifting your voices."

Every voice belongs! Wellbeing & joy circle.

Yes. Many people find that singing together provides solace, support, and a gentle way to process what they're carrying. It's a space to feel held.
We sing secular community songs about connection and wellbeing. Sometimes songs use poetic words like "holy", "sacred", or "heaven" in a human-centered way — not as religious doctrine, but as a way of honoring the mystery of being alive and caring for ourselves. We use these words in context of a journey toward peace and belonging, not as a religious destination. These are about the human experience and our longings for connection — not theology.

You're always welcome to participate however feels right for you. Hum, sing, or listen — it's all welcome.
